Poem – School

A place from where my social journey began,
on the first day where tearful eyes stared at the woman.
Later came to know that she was called a teacher,
whose power shaped up the life of the innocent creature.

The face sitting next to me became my best friend,
with whom my conversation never seemed to end.
loved to share food from different tiffin boxes,
and waited for the evenings to merrily play, away from houses.

Weekdays were filled with homework and studies,
Saturdays and Sundays would bring relief from these duties.
The first rank-holder would be the teachers pet,
seeing whom others jealous would get.

Everyone loved to be the leader of the class,
enjoying by handing out the names that broke the silence mass.
The naughtiest boys by the teacher were punished,
who were forced to sit beside girls with face ashamed.

Head always bowed down to the P.T. master,
otherwise his canes would speak to our palms faster.
β€˜Happy birthday to you…’ was the only song to be sung,
waiting for the colorful chocolates to feed to our tongue.

Considered it as my second home sweet,
where newer and newer things always seem to meet.
Crafted myself stepping into it,
and set the path to discover self, stepping out of it.
