Movie review – Lucia

Lucia, a kannada thriller movie, which was produced using crowd funded money, wrote the history of film making in the kannada industry. Thanks to Pawan for his innovative way of storytelling. Satish Ninasam just poured himself into the character and pulled a great show as a hero and Shruthi hariharan just fitted perfectly into the soul of that simple girl in the neighbourhood.

The story revolves around a common man who suffers from insomnia. He lives a simple carefree life employed in a small local theatre. On the personal front his pure heart longs love from a simple girl working in a pizza outlet, whom he meets as part of matchmaking but due to his financial status they fall apart.

He takes the help of the tablet Lucia which helps him to live a pleasant life in his dreams, placing himself in the shoes of a wealthy pampered famous super star. Due to his fame, he is fortunate to get his lady love walk into him, easily in the dreams.

He gets so addicted to the drug that he finds solace being in the dream world, as life sails through smoothly. But his longing for pure love continues to haunt him in the dreams too.

Finally comes a stage, where he is perplexed to differentitate the real vs the dream world and gets confused to the core as to which life he should choose to live in.

An absolute masterpiece which plays on your mind pulling you along and lives upto hollywood standards. A platter with a pure love story laced with thrills and emotions,  served innovatively by the brilliant writer, is surely going to touch the chords of the heart making it a memorable experience and the characters would surely stay for long for carrying the simplicity and pure emotions.

Not sub title. I know Kannada I am far from perfect but I would say 70%. My roots are in mangalore and I was in Bangalore for 10 years! I am losing touch now after moving to Pune

  6. After the Raj Kumar era when Doordarshan used to air Kannada movies, I have spent many evenings watching Kannada movies. Ananth Nag, the late Shankar Nag, Vishnu Varsha and the great Raj Kumar ruled the industry then. Now I am lost where the Kannada industry Isco concerned as I don’t follow any of it. Will take your recommendation and watch it though, Ravi. Thank you!

Honored by ur comments. Yes i loved that era of bandhana, suprabhatha, nee nakare haalu saakre and comedy movies of anantnag which were meaningful movies. The movie beladingala baley had won national acclaim. Nice to hear that you understan kannada :-). This lucia is a different one and innovatively described and enjoyable.
