I watched this movie based on one of my friend’s advise, as I do not follow or understand Malayalam.
Downloading subtitles, I set on the journey of 2.5 hours and the hero, heroine took me through a simple romantic story.
What a lovely warm story it turned out to be. It is a story of a girl growing up through her teens narrated by her own-self, about her journey and more importantly covering her growing interest for a man in her town. She narrates her constant efforts and her continued endeavor to earn his love, while staying positive in parallel with the hope that true love would reach its destination one fine day.
The innocent cute looking Nazriya Nazim earned herself a fan, as I was dumbstruck with her natural simplistic acting which brought life to the character. At one end, she plays a pensive moody girl as a teenager transforming into a matured understanding adult as her life moves.
Nivin Pauly fits well into the character of a practical serious man who for his age understands the difference between what infatuation of a girl and love of a woman means. He has done a decent job for the screen time he shares, as the movie is actually marked for the heroine.
A beautiful simple slow movie. I crave to more Malayalam movies after watching this. Well, Premam and Neram pushed me further into this space. I will cover the review of these movies subsequently. For now, it is ohm shanthi oshaana……..
Its available on hotstar
I recommend Bangalore days. I guarantee you that you will enjoy it. Each character is a special one.
Ustad hotel is another movie that has a lot of good elements.
A lot of good response for both these movies have come from another states as well. Don’t forget subtitles.

This is one of my all- time favorites. A simple story woven with a sprinkle of humor and beauty. All the actors have put in their very best. As Quillpen has already suggested, I too would suggest all those movies. Mohanlalβs Drishyam which has been redone by Kamal Hassan is also a good watch. Malayalam movies focus on the story line and less on dancing moves, so you might find it a little different from those in usual South Indian movies

This has become my fav movie too. Yes I did watch Drishyam in telugu played by venkatesh and it is a good movie. I have started liking malayalam movies after watching a few of them recently. Priyadarshan movies had a great touch of simple stories with meaningful humour. Apthamithra picked up from malayalam was a great hit in kannada and I heard Shobhana madam had worked best in that movie.

I cannot speak Telugu, Ravi. I had friends who were Telugites but have no idea about the industry. May be simply because I have never tried. So I think it is super that you took the effort to try and do so. Glad you enjoyed.

Yes, very down to earth and realistic too. People feel related in those movies. I recall the subtle humor in Priyadarshan movies, so decent and cute

Growing up, I watched a lot of Malayalam movies. My favorite still are the old ones from the 90βs. It never get old or do I get bored by watching them again. Those priyadarshan movies are so amazing like minnaram, Chandralekha, vandhanam, manichitrathazu. Sad to say that some of those movies are exact copies of famous English movies. I think some credit goes to the dialogue and mammootty and Mohanlal whose acting is phenomenal.
There are recent Malayalam movies that are really good. And some of them are not even focused on commercial hits. Like manjidikuru, banglore days, ustad hotel and my recent favorite GUPPY :). This shows that the Malayalam industry has the potential to be more versatile and worth watching.
