Movie review – The words (2012)

This Hollywood movie belongs to the drama and mystery genre, which depicts the story of a successful writer whose novel ‘The words’ is doing it’s rounds of fame and one of his fans is interested to uncover the mystery of whether the novel is indeed fictional?.

The movie further goes on to explain the tale within the novel ‘The words’, of a struggling young writer who is trying his best to build his identity but his every novel fails him which is politely turned down by publishers.

And one fine day, his hands lay on an antique satchel gifted by his wife which contains a manuscript hidden inside, unknown to none and he ends up discovering the old aged unsigned manuscript and is dumbstruck with the story after reading it. Grabbing the opportunity he submits the story as his own work and lo!, it brings him the popularity and celebrity status, becoming one of the best sellers.

The guilt of stealing someone’s creation of art does hit his conscience occasionally, coupled with his fear of the discovery of the hidden truth and the guilt and realization that such stolen art work could never be created by him hits his soul further. His happiness finally turns into that of shame, torment that hits hard his moral and ethics, when one day an old man meets him and reveals his identity of being the real author of the lost manuscript.

Played by Bradly Cooper, Dennis Quaid & Zoe Saldana (Avatar fame), who have acted terrifically well in the shoes of their respective characters. The movie though moves slow, keeps the viewer engrossed and involved, is a fine watch. I am indeed surprised by the negative critic ratings that this move has earned for itself.
For me, its a beautiful piece of literary art containing an innovative way of telling a story within a story.
