Tale of an Egg

Well, this post is not about the egg that hatched into an ugly duckling and finally turned into a beautiful swan to live happily ever after.

Beauty, a characteristic that human evolution has been continuously obsessed with, am sure would have left us craving for it, at some stages of life.

‘Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder’ – To the most of us, beauty is a pleasing perfect physical personality, grace, charisma, elegance and to the some, it could mean politeness, and intelligence and to the last few, who look beyond their eyes, it translates to gentleness, compassion and caring (inner beauty). It takes ages, maturity, awareness and strength for the eyes to realize ‘inner beauty’ and we all certainly embrace it at some point of life – be it in a friend, life partner, mentor, children.

One such sensible Kannada movie, which brings such emotions live on the reel screen is ‘Ondu Motteya Kathe” which depicts the life of a bald bachelor working as a Kannada college lecturer, on the look out of a life sharing partner. Like the most of us, he too longs for a ‘good looking’ opposite gender.

He meets one pretty lecturer at college but very soon realizes that beauty, ends up getting attracted only to beauty.

As the journey of partner-hunt continues, a second attractive lady enters his life but again leaves him dejected emphasizing the importance of good looks in the society.

And then finally enters one plumpy ‘average looking’ (in the shoes of the movie character, as I found her really sweet and cute) lady and the typical stereotype mentality of the male’s discomfort attitude springs up in accepting her, in absence of the perfect LOOKS benchmarked by our society. Isn’t love all about respecting the heart that loved? Or does it become important for the other heart to be elegant from the outside, first?

The acclaimed director Pawan Kumar who crafted the very famous ‘Lucia’, has waved his magic wand to present a beautiful emotional tale and a societal message on prejudices and body shaming. The beauty of the movie lies in its simplicity, and the characters and situations draw us closer to relate with them and feel in their shoes.

Raj (an RJ by profession), the protagonist of the movie, who is also the story writer wanted to actually make it a short story movie but went on to present it on big screen in co-ordination with Pawan and thanks to them for enlightening us that, beauty lies right within us and it is up to to the eyes to open up and realize it.
